The Austrian University of Applied Sciences Conference (FHK) and its members mourn the loss of Prof. (FH) DI Dr Gernot Hanreich, long-time Rector of FH Burgenland and committed member of the university of applied sciences community, who passed away unexpectedly.

Gernot Hanreich played a decisive role in the development of the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences over many years - as head of department, head of degree programme and, since 2013, as rector for several terms of office. As a board member of the FHK, he was a committed co-designer of the entire university of applied sciences sector and was passionately committed to its further development.

FHK President Ulrike Prommer: "Gernot Hanreich was a personality who significantly shaped the work of the universities of applied sciences with his professional expertise, vision and human warmth. We are all saddened by his sudden death. Our thoughts are with his family and all those who were close to him."

FHK Vice President Georg Pehm, his longstanding colleague on the Executive Board of Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, is deeply shocked: "With Gernot Hanreich, Burgenland University of Applied Sciences has not only lost its rector, but also a great colleague and a wonderful person. His death leaves a gap that will be difficult to fill."

FHK Secretary General Kurt Koleznik also recognised Hanreich's achievements: "Gernot was an important part of FHK for many years. He enriched our work with his commitment, his humour and his collegiality. We are losing a highly valued companion and friend."

The FHK expresses its deepest condolences to the family and the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland and will always honour Gernot Hanreich's memory.
