The resolution passed by the Governors' Conference on 8 November 2019 underlines the great importance of universities of applied sciences for the regions.

In their resolution, the provincial governors call on the future federal government to take action on the following points:

  1. Increase in federal funding for universities of applied sciences from the next budget year by 10% to ensure the high quality of education, the high professional relevance and the further digitalisation of teaching as well as to maintain the excellent supervision ratios and permeability from non-traditional educational backgrounds
  2. Further increases in funding rates in the 3rd, 4th and 5th budget year
  3. 1,200 new undergraduate places per year to secure the business location
  4. Inclusion of the development and financing plan in the University of Applied Sciences Studies Act
  5. Introduction of continuous research funding for universities of applied sciences totalling 20 million euros per year

"With their decision today, the provincial governors have clearly emphasised the great importance of universities of applied sciences for the regional business location. It is now a matter of securing the high quality of the universities of applied sciences in the long term and supporting the business location. Graduates from universities of applied sciences have long been an indispensable contribution to the regional economy and are in high demand. As a result, universities of applied sciences have become an indispensable driver of innovation for the regions. With today's resolution, the Governors' Conference has clearly stated that the maintenance of the high quality of universities of applied sciences must be financially secured," said FHK President Raimund Ribitsch.
