The evening reception of the Austrian University of Applied Sciences Conference (FHK) is an annual fixture in the calendar of the Austrian science and research community in Alpbach. On the eve of the university talks, people meet here for a personal exchange of ideas and networking. The awarding of the title of Professor in the field of science to FHK President Helmut Holzinger made this year's reception a very special event.
During the award ceremony, Science Minister Mahrer emphasised Holzinger's outstanding services to Austria as a location for science and innovation.
During his time in office as President of the FHK, Holzinger has successfully communicated many groundbreaking demands of the universities of applied sciences to politicians and initiated their implementation. His successes include a significant increase in the funding of study places as well as a further expansion of study places at universities of applied sciences and the implementation of measures in the area of quality assurance and the promotion of the autonomy of universities of applied sciences. He also constructively addressed controversial topics such as the independent doctorate at universities of applied sciences. It is to his credit that these topics are now openly discussed and have found their way onto the political agenda.
