On 24 and 25 April 2019, the universities of applied sciences will once again be demonstrating how new ideas can be turned into practical applications.

The research community of universities of applied sciences meets at the annual FFH to present, exchange and discuss current research activities. In 2019, the general theme of the FFH is "Research on the move!", which is based on the title of the Lower Austrian state exhibition "World on the move", which will also take place in Wiener Neustadt in 2019.

"Our world is indeed on the move and it is science and research that offer answers and solutions to new challenges. Universities of applied sciences play a key role here, as their research is application- and solution-orientated. Teaching and research take place close to society, the regional economy, especially SMEs, and therefore close to the population. This important function of UAS research for Austria as a business location will once again be impressively presented at the FFH 2019," says Raimund Ribitsch, President of the Austrian University of Applied Sciences Conference (FHK) and co-organiser of the FFH.

"The universities of applied sciences in Austria have been conducting innovative and socially valuable research in many different areas for years. The FFH therefore serves to present the progress and results already achieved, to exchange ideas and to bring the research activities of the UAS sector before the curtain," emphasises Peter Erlacher, COO of the UAS Wiener Neustadt, who as host is looking forward to top-class presentations.

Raimund Ribitsch also states: "We need to think more broadly about research today and finally move away from the entrenched boundaries between applied research and basic research. There is excellent research here and there, and application-orientated research must also be strengthened with more resources. We at the FHK are committed to this. The FFH 2019 provides us with numerous impressive examples of excellent applied research and therefore good arguments in our favour."

The FFH 2019 will showcase research work in the thematic sessions:
- Innovation & digitalisation
- Management
- Health
- Social affairs
- Mechatronics

The main focus is on future fields such as mobility, energy, A.I., new materials and production processes, an ageing society and care or the circular economy. Researchers meet political representatives at the FFH. In addition to interesting research results, the FFH also discusses the necessary framework conditions that are needed to successfully conduct research in Austria.
