It was the order of the day to cancel the "30 Years of Universities of Applied Sciences" celebration planned for 16 September 2024 due to the devastating flood situation in eastern Austria. 320 guests were registered for the celebration, which would have taken place in the Austrian parliament.
"In view of the dramatic situation in many regions of Austria, we decided together with the President of the National Council, Mr Sobotka, not to hold the planned celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the universities of applied sciences. However, the Presidium of the FHK has unanimously voted in favour of donating the money earmarked for the celebration to 'Austria helps Austria - Flood Relief'
", explains Ulrike Prommer, President of the FHK.
The universities of applied sciences have been making a significant contribution to higher education teaching and research for 30 years, particularly at regional level. "As universities of applied sciences, we are committed not only to science but also to supporting the regions. It is therefore very important to us to support the affected areas in these difficult times,
" says Kurt Koleznik, Secretary General of the FHK.
The FHK stands in solidarity with all those affected and hopes that the donation will help to alleviate the suffering in the affected regions.
