Additional study places already possible in 2018/19

The President of the University of Applied Sciences Conference, Dr Helmut Holzinger, reacted with satisfaction to this morning's announcement of the implementation of the further expansion of study places at Austria's universities of applied sciences agreed a year ago between the then Science Minister Dr Reinhold Mitterlehner and Federal Chancellor Christian Kern. Accordingly, a total of EUR 100 million from the bank levy will be invested in future-oriented education at universities of applied sciences in the coming years. One focus will be on the subjects of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.

Holzinger: "I would like to expressly thank the current Minister of Science, Harald Mahrer, who has now initiated the call for tenders for the further expansion. As a result, we will be able to offer up to 450 additional study places from the 2018/19 academic year." Holzinger is convinced that this is a long-awaited and important step that will strengthen Austria as a centre of education and research in the long term.
