The Austrian federal government presented its new working agreement today and committed itself to the further development of Austrian universities towards becoming world leaders. In addition to the introduction of a study place financing model at public universities, the main aim is to improve the quality of studies and supervision conditions as well as a better social mix in the higher education sector. Key points here are the expansion of part-time study programmes and the establishment of a funding pot to improve access for apprentices at universities of applied sciences from 2017/18.
The Conference of Universities of Applied Sciences (FHK) welcomes the Federal Government's plans in the higher education sector and is determined to contribute to the planning of the implementation concept. FHK President Dr Helmut Holzinger commented: "The goals set by the federal government can only be achieved if the key players are involved from the outset. The FHK is certainly willing to contribute its comprehensive expertise."
