A necessary budgetary measure to finance teaching

The FHK, the umbrella organisation of all 21 Austrian universities of applied sciences, has reason to celebrate. After numerous discussions and a great deal of persuasion, an increase of 10% in UAS study place funding rates was announced. This urgently needed measure to cushion the loss of value is seen as a positive signal for the future by the universities of applied sciences, which only celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2019.

"We are delighted that the FHK has succeeded in convincing us of the need to increase the funding rate. Science Minister Faßmann has campaigned intensively and successfully on behalf of the universities of applied sciences in this matter. Minister Faßmann has recognised that the increase is urgently needed to ensure the quality of teaching. This budgetary measure will directly benefit students," said FHK President Ribitsch in an initial reaction to yesterday's publication. "We are convinced that Federal Minister Faßmann is also an important ally for the future challenges facing universities of applied sciences," Ribitsch concluded.
