In separate interviews in the current FALTER supplement BILDUNG FHK Secretary General Kurt Koleznik and the President of the uniko Sabine Seidler on the relationship between the two types of higher education institution. Kurt Koleznik explains that UAS graduates should also be able to do a doctorate at a UAS if they have the right to award doctorates independently. If all the prerequisites are in place at the UAS - researchers, research questions, the money, habilitated supervisors employed at the UAS - then there is no reason not to be able to do a doctorate. He considers politics to be more open in this respect than in the past. He sees cooperation programmes between universities and universities of applied sciences as a first step and says: "(...) it would also do the universities good to open up here. We could then work much more closely together and learn from each other."
