Programmes and Degrees
In accordance with the European “Bologna” Process, the system of Bachelor and Master degree programmes was introduced in the Austrian UAS sector in May 2002. The introduction of this tiered system in combination with the European Credit Transfer System was an important step towards enabling comparability and establishing a standardisation of European degree programmes.
The UAS Studies Act (Fachhochschul-Studiengesetz, FHStG) now distinguishes between three different types of degree programmes in the Austrian UAS sector:
- FH Bachelor degree programmes (6 semesters); Degree: “Bachelor of”
- FH Master degree programmes (2-4 semesters); Degree: “Master of or DI”
- FH diploma degree programmes (8-10 semesters); Degree: “Magister (FH)” or “Dipl. Ing. (FH)”
The first FH Bachelor degree programmes were introduced in the 2003/04 academic year, the first Master degree programmes in the 2004/05 academic year. As of January 2007, 117 Bachelor, 35 Master and 45 diploma degree programmes are offered by Austrian UAS.
